Asset Type Experience

Backup Servicing

MTAG Services offers the full spectrum of investment-specific asset management services that are tailored to the alternative credit space.

Cold Backup

  • Gain an understanding of the asset process, including how assets are originated, collected, and how asset accounts and collection activities are tracked within the Current Servicer’s system.
  •  Obtain the following from the Servicer:
  1. Electronic access to their financial and asset servicing system
  2. A corporate directory with contact details for relevant third-party vendors
  3. Asset servicing policies and procedures
  4. Templates used for asset origination and management
  • Review the Servicer’s monthly reporting package and data tape.
  • Transition Timeframe: Ensure transition to the “Warm” Backup Servicer is completed within 15 days of notice.

Warm Backup

  • Import portfolio data tapes into MTAG’s proprietary servicing system.
  • Develop a comprehensive Servicing Transition Plan for the Successor Servicer, including:
  1. Identifying key Servicer personnel who will assist with the transfer of duties (e.g., accounting, receivables, payables, finance, payroll, and other financial services).
  2. Identifying and recommending individuals from the Servicer’s management team, MTAG, and other organizations who can perform servicing obligations.
  3. Forming a servicing transition team to collaborate with relevant parties to establish a process for MTAG or another Successor Servicer to take over the servicing role.
  • Transition Timeframe: upon a Servicer event of default, MTAG will be prepared to move to a “Hot” Backup Servicer role within 30 days

Hot Backup

  • Maintain real time synchronization of asset data, payment records, and other critical information between the primary and backup servicing systems to enable seamless transition.
  • Develop clear protocols for when and how the hot backup servicer will be activated, including criteria and predefined steps for switching over with minimal operational delay.
  • Conduct periodic testing and monitoring of the hot backup system to ensure its readiness and functionality, including performing mock transitions and updating backup plans as necessary.
  • Implementation of the servicing transition plan, upon a Servicer termination event, MTAG will perform all servicing responsibilities.

Asset Management Support Services (AMSS)

AMSS is a suite of technology and automated solutions specifically tailored to accommodate bespoke, structured investments across an array of asset classes. Clients can choose from our suite of offerings/services on a portfolio basis or on an individual investment level and MTAG will customize those services based on the transaction structure and asset class. 

The primary supporting technology for AMSS is the Asset Management Support Services System – a proprietary system, developed in-house – where clients’ monthly portfolio data tapes, collateral information, deal specific criteria and customized programs are uploaded and entered.

AMSS clients include PE firms, institutional investors, asset managers, family offices, and other similar market participants with portfolios of off the run assets.

Adam Berman

Chief Operating Officer
Adam Berman is a seasoned executive with over 35 years of experience in operations and technology, including two decades of leadership in the real estate and financial services industries. For the past 15 years, he has served as Partner and Chief Operating Officer at MTAG Financial, where he leads the firm’s operational strategy, technology infrastructure, and process management across its servicing and investment businesses.

Prior to joining MTAG, Mr. Berman was Director of Servicing and Information Technology at Mooring Financial Corporation, where he oversaw technology initiatives and loan servicing operations. Earlier in his career, he held a Director role at a start-up enterprise software training and consulting firm, where he was responsible for developing and delivering technology solutions to Fortune 500 clients.

Mr. Berman has consistently advanced into senior leadership roles at the intersection of technology and operations, helping organizations scale efficiently and navigate complex growth environments. He holds a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Emory University.

Emily Sanford

Director of Asset Management Support Services

Emily Sanford has more than 15 years of financial and operational audit experience in the financial services industry, with 10 of those years dedicated to development and implementation of risk-mitigation strategies in the specialty asset space.

Prior to joining MTAG, Emily worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Charlotte, NC and Los Angeles, CA. While at PwC, she worked within the firm’s Consumer Finance Group providing audit and attestation services for a global bank in the Fortune 25 and performing compliance audits for mortgage banking clients. She joined MTAG in 2014, managing the internal audit function and risk management protocols as well as directing asset management support services engagements.

Emily received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Appalachian State University and her Master of Accountancy degree from the College of Charleston.
